Velma Jean Peters Grose

Velma Jean Peters Grose, passed away Friday morning, November 29th, surrounded by her loving family, in Ponca City. She was 97. A Celebration of Life Ceremony will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at Trout Funeral Home Chapel. A Private Family committal will take place at Newkirk Cemetery at a later date. Velma was the daughter of Earl LeRoy and Wilhelmena Charlotte (Kahle) Peters. Velma was born October 27, 1927, south of Newkirk. After attending Pioneer Rural School in Kildare, and Ponca City Schools, she graduated from PoHi in 1945. She also attended Oklahoma State University. Velma returned home to help her father on the farm, and was employed by the ASC Farm Agency. She met David Edward Grose, Jr., of Newkirk, and they were married in the Methodist Church in Newkirk on September 3, 1950. Dave and Velma moved to their current farm, West of Newkirk, where Velma still resided. There they raised three children; David III, Linda, and Karen. They engaged in farming and ranching. 
In her younger years, Velma was an avid gardener; known for raising produce by the bushels, canning, sewing, cooking, and crocheting. Her meals were enjoyed by the many harvest crews thru the years. She was also known for her wonderful pies at Joy Club, especially the cherry pies picked from her own tree. In her later years, she enjoyed playing Train Dominoes, and Skip Bo with her family. 
Velma is survived by: son, David of Newkirk; daughter, Linda Smith and Michael of Ponca City, OK, Karen Hagerdon and Kevin of Yukon, OK; grandchildren, David Grose IV and Emily of Oklahoma 
City, OK, Justin Grose and Sarah of Oklahoma City, OK, Christine Woods and Logan of Savannah, TX, Troy Smith of Southern California, Alecia Brouillette and Ryan of Yukon, OK, Chase Hagerdon of Yukon, OK; great-grandchildren, Richard, Harper, Ben & Ayden Grose of Oklahoma City, OK, Margot and George Grose of Oklahoma City, OK, Maddie and Max Woods of Savannah, TX, Kamdon and Kaia Brouillette of Yukon, OK; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and loving friends. 
Velma is preceded in death by: her husband, Dave, Jr.; grandson, Trevor Smith; her parents; her sisters, Lois Peters, Lorraine Salamone, Verna Rosebeary; her brothers, LaVerne Peters, LeRoy Peters; as well as, her brothers and sisters-in-law.
The family will be at the Smith home at 828 Spring Rd, Ponca City. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of North Central Oklahoma, 445 Fairview Ave, Ponca City, OK 74601.
