Board of Education renews Haskins' contract at regular meeting
The Blackwell Board of Education held their first meeting of 2024 on Monday night where they received a special presentation from Blackwell Elementary School on their “Conscious Discipline” specialist teachers Mysti Reeder and Kristin Brown, introduced by BES Principal Jennifer Hankins.
Conscious Discipline is an evidence-based, trauma-informed approach to learning. It is recognized by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration’s (SAMHSA’s) National Registry of Evidence-based Programs and Practices (NREPP).
Conscious Discipline provides an array of behavior management strategies and classroom structures that teachers can use to turn everyday situations into learning opportunities.
Superintendent Shawn Haskins noted that it was Board Appreciation Month and thanked the Board of Education for their work in helping to make Blackwell schools succeed. The board, in turn, thanked Haskins for his work as well.
The board approved the hiring of new substitutes, and then heard reports from site principals.
The board also took action on conducting a performance review for Superintendent Haskins, and approved his contract through 2025.
