Flycatchers having huge summer in Blackwell

The Blackwell Flycatchers had another winning week facing off against the North Platte 80s where they dominated 16-7 and 5-0 before facing the Roswell Invaders for their July 4 Independence Day game where the Flycatchers beat them 9-4 in Game 1.

Unfortunately, the Flycatchers fell to Roswell 8-6 and then 18-12.

Beginning tonight July 11, the Flycatchers will square off against Garden City Wind at 6:30 p.m. at Morgan Field before traveling to Garden City, Kansas to take them on their home field.

The Flycatchers have continued their streak of flashy game-openings by having Immanuel Baptist Church Pastor Matt Smith throw out the first pitch last week during Youth Group Night, then on July 4 had their game ball delivered by AirEvac medical flight service with coordination by the City of Blackwell Fire Department & EMS where local Army veteran Dannie LaBlue threw the first pitch.

Saturday, the Flycatchers’ sponsors put the word out on social media that they’d be in need of water, snacks, and more for their away games this week causing several community members and organizations including Blackwell Tourism to bring items for the team.

In Pecos League standings, the Flycatchers are currently leading with a record number of stolen bases by Joey Dice. They are tied with the Vallejo Seaweed team for on-base slugging thanks to Braeden Levandowski.

The Flycatcher’s Eli Davis has also beaten the division record for strikeouts this season.

The Flycatchers are currently ranked second in the Mountain Division behind Garden City Wind.

Blackwell’s Flycatchers are 23-12 as of press time (July 8) , and the Garden City Wind are 26-7

The Pecos League regular season ends July 28.

The top four teams in the Pacific Division and the top six teams in the Mountain Division will qualify for the playoffs.

The Playoffs will consist of four rounds, ending with the Champion of the Mountain Division facing the winner of the Pacific Division
